Tongkang Yard Flat closed 222 residents screened for Covid-19

ALOR SETAR, Sept 23 — The Tongkang Yard flat in Jalan Seberang Perak here was sealed off today over suspected Covid-19 spreading among its residents.

The entrance and exit to the flat were blocked off since 6 am.

State health director Dr Mohd Fikri Ujang said this was to allow health personnel to screen all residents for the virus.

“A total of 222 residents had undergone the Covid-19 screening test starting from 9 am until 1 pm, after it was suspected that there was an increase of positive cases in the area.

“Four individuals have yet to undergo the screening because they were not home,” he told Bernama here, today.

Meanwhile, Kota Setar district police chief Supt Mohd Redzuan Salleh said the move to close the low-cost housing area was decided by the National Security Council based on the advice from the Health Ministry.

“We advised the people in Alor Setar to comply with the standard operating procedures and directives from the authorities regarding the closure of the area,” he said.
