Air Selangor: Over a million users in Selangor, KL to face water cuts today

By Selangor Journal Team

SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 — A total of 1,196,457 users in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur will be affected by unscheduled water supply disruption following the pollution of Sungai Selangor.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) corporate communication head Elina Baseri in a statement today said the pollution was detected at 2am this morning and had forced the Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2, 3 and Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plants to cease operations.

She said this would affect 1,292 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat.

“Air Selangor has immediately taken action to flush and dilute the contaminants by releasing water from the Hybrid Off River Augmentation System (HORAS) 600 at 285 million litres per day (MLD) and raw water from the dam at 800 MLD.

“At the same time, raw water was also released from the KL Larut pool pumping operation at 336 MLD,” she said in the statement.

Elina said as of 6.30am today, the pollution level detected in Sungai Selangor is at 1 TON (Threshold Odour Number).

Meanwhile, restoration of water supply to areas affected by the temporary closure of the Sungai Selangor Phase 1 Water Treatment Plant due to a pipe leakage on Saturday 17 could not commence as according to the schedule announced yesterday, despite reaching an 80 per cent recovery rate at 2am today.

Air Selangor has started mobilising water tankers to affected areas with priority given to critical premises such as hospitals and dialysis centres.

“Consumers in need of water supply assistance for emergencies such as funeral can call 15300,” the statement read.

Latest information on the unscheduled water disruption will be updated from time to time through the Air Selangor official communication channels on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, as well as its smartphone application and the Air Selangor website at www.airselangor.com.
