SHAH ALAM, Oct 3 — The Selangor government has upgraded the SELangkah (Step In, Safely) contact tracing system with newly added features as part of its efforts to break the chain of Covid-19 infection following the recent surge in the number of cases.

In a statement yesterday, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this includes the “Map & Review Premises” and “Check your exposure risk” features.

“The ‘Map & Review Premises’ feature allows the users to obtain information on premises that have been reported to have been exposed with the coronavirus as well as the date of disinfection of the said premises.

“The ‘Check your exposure risk’ feature allows the users to cross-check as to whether the premises they are visiting are risky areas undergoing the (14-days) incubation period,” said Amirudin in the statement.

The Selangor Menteri Besar said in the near future, the SELangkah system will also be equipped with a feature that allows users to check as to whether they are exposed to other individuals that have been tested positive for Covid-19. The identity of the patients will not be disclosed.

“The ‘Check your exposure risk’ feature allows the users to cross-check as to whether the premises they are visiting are risky areas undergoing the 14-days incubation period.

“The use of SELangkah has been made mandatory in all government and business premises as part of the additional conditions for the reopening of the economy in Selangor, under the state government circular dated May 3, 2020.

“We hope that all businesses will clearly put up the SELangkah posters (at their premises) and that the users would scan the SELangkah QR code as well,” he said.

All owners of premises are able to create their own QR code through the selangkah.mbiselangor.com.my website or selangkah.my.

The Selangor administration had yesterday underlined several efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19 due to the recent spike in daily infections.

Amirudin said the matter was decided at a special online meeting with the State Security Council Committee and the Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC).

Some of the measures announced included the extension of the Selangor Covid-19 operations room operating hours to 7pm and the free Covid-19 screening for people residing in Selangor with recent travel history from Sabah.

The public was also advised against attending big conferences or gatherings, with the number of participants allowed not exceeding 250 people at any one time.

Yesterday, the number of new infections in Selangor had doubled today with a total of 31 cases, compared to the 13 cases recorded on Thursday. Two clusters were also newly discovered — the Seri Setia Cluster in Gombak and Seri Anggerik Cluster in Hulu Selangor.

The country also saw the highest number of daily cases yesterday with 287 infections, bringing the cumulative figure to 11,771, with 1,540 active cases.
