Selangor stimulus package: Three million people benefit from 40 initiatives

SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 — The Selangor government has implemented 40 out of the 43 initiatives introduced in Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the state stimulus package, which was dedicated to cushioning the impacts of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said a total of RM264.4 million, or 64 per cent, were spent from the allocated RM400 million and had benefited over three million people in Selangor.

“(The package) was aimed at spurring the efforts in containing the spread of Covid-19 and to absorb the socioeconomic impact of the pandemic,” said Amirudin today during the tabling of the Belanjawan Selangor 2021 (2021 Selangor Budget).

On March 20, the state government tabled the first phase of the stimulus package with a total fund of RM127.8million, whereas Phase 2 was allocated with RM272.5 million, tabled on April 1.

The three ongoing initiatives from the first two phases are as follows:
— Assistance to Covid-19 patients
— Covid-19 Fund
— Selangor Pay Initiative which has been improved as Selangor Advance

On July 13, the state government tabled the third phase of the Selangor Prihatin Package which carried a total of RM55.85 billion in economic value and included coordination with various levels of relevant state agencies.

Today, the state revealed its budget with an allotted amount of RM2.323 billion, emphasising on five main strategies to strengthen the economic health of the state.

The strategies include Selangor Digitalisation Agenda, Spurring Premier Smart State; Harmonious Selangor, People’s Prosperity; Spearheading Value Creation and Human Capital Development; Strengthen Sustainable Environment, Resources, and Food Supply Chain; Boost Economic Recovery and Industrial Development.
