Covid-19: Klang records 189 new infections out of 271 cases in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, Nov 17 — The Klang district has recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 cases in Selangor with a total of 189 infections.

Selangor saw a total of 271 daily cases today from the 1,210 new infections recorded nationwide.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new cases in Selangor include 12 imported infections.

“Out of the total 259 new local cases, 208 were from existing clusters, 12 from the screening of positive Covid-19 close contacts, and 39 from other Covid-19 testings,” he said in a statement today.

He said 142 (52.4 per cent) of the total number of infection cases recorded in Selangor today comes from the Teratai Cluster, out of which 131 (92.3 per cent) people that were infected are non-Malaysian.

Teratai Cluster is a workplace cluster that had spread to the Klang, Kuala Selangor, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Gombak district.

As of today, 580 people from the Teratai Cluster were tested, with 370 tested positive with Covid-19, of which 330 people were warded in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while 40 had recovered. Zero death was recorded.

Also, Dr Noor Hisham said two clusters in Selangor had ended today with no fatalities recorded.

He said the clusters were the Tasik Cluster that involved the Petaling, Hulu Langat, Klang and Gombak districts and the Olive Cluster in Hulu Langat district.

According to the data by the Selangor Health Department’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), the Kuala Langat district recorded the second-highest figure with 33 cases, followed by Petaling (24), Hulu Langat (5), Kuala Selangor (4), Sepang (3), and Gombak (1).

No new case was registered in Hulu Selangor while Sabak Bernam remains a green zone with zero active cases.

According to the breakdown of infections by sub-districts (mukim), Kapar leads with 145 cases.

This is followed by Klang with 44 cases, Tanjung 12 (2) with 28 cases, Damansara (8), while five cases recorded each in Petaling and Kajang.

Four cases were recorded each in Tanjung 12 (1) and Ijok, followed by three infections in Bukit Raja, Labu (2) and one case recorded each in Teluk Panglima Garang, Dengkil and Batu.

The cumulative figure in Selangor is at 8,046 out of the accumulated 49,730 Covid-19 cases nationwide.
