Four localities in Perak, Sabah to be placed under EMCO from Nov 20

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) will be enforced at Zone B and Zone C of Taman Meru 2C in Ipoh, Perak from November 20 until December 3.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said two localities in Sabah, namely Kampung Nahaba and Kampung Tegudon in Kota Belud would also be placed under EMCO for the same period.

He said the decision was made on the advice and risk assessment by the Ministry of Health (MOH) following the increase in positive Covid-19 cases in the localities.

“As of Nov 16, a total of 938 screenings have been conducted at Zone B and Zone C of Taman Meru 2C and 76 positive Covid-19 cases were recorded in these two localities.

“For Kampung Nahaba and Kampung Tegudon, 36 positive Covid-19 cases were recorded in both localities as of yesterday,” he said at a press conference on the development of the recovery movement control order (RMCO) and the conditional MCO (CMCO) here today.

He said the EMCO at Zone B and Zone C of Taman Meru 2C would involve 572 houses and 2,288 residents while in Kampung Nahaba and Kampung Tegudon would affect 1,740 residents.

Ismail Sabri said the same standard operating procedure (SOP) would be adopted in the localities as previously announced for areas placed under the EMCO including movement in and out of the areas is restricted and no economic, as well as social activities, are allowed.

“Food supplies will be sent to houses. However, for emergency cases such as death residents can apply for permission from the police,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the EMCO at the Tawau Temporary Detention Centre (PTS), Sandakan Prison, and Prison Quarters in Taman Wira, in Sandakan Sabah which was initially scheduled to end tomorrow would be extended for another 14 days until December 3.

He also announced a two-week extension of EMCO at Seberang Perai Prison and its staff quarters in Penang, effective tomorrow until December 2.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said MOH would present the findings of Covid-19 infection risk assessment in states placed under CMCO in a special meeting of the National Security Council (MKN) this Friday.

He said this was because there were requests for the government to review the CMCO status enforced in some states which had recorded a decrease in Covid-19 positive cases.

“Currently, the MOH is studying the number of cases, the risk assessment, the infectivity rate. If there is no increase in cases and the states can be considered as green zones, then maybe the CMCO enforced there will be lifted.

“However, it still depends on the risk assessment by the MOH. InsyaAllah, this Friday I will announce it,” he said.

Ismail Sabri said a total of 315 individuals were detained for violating Covid-19 SOP yesterday and off the total, 310 were compounded while three were remanded and two were granted bail.

Among the offences committed were failure to wear face masks involving 86 individuals, failure to adhere to physical distancing rules (75), failure to provide equipment to record customer details (63), engaging in activities at entertainment centres (39), travelling interstate or interdistrict without permission (23) and others (29).
