KAJANG, Nov 26 — Maintenance and restoration works of riverbanks in the Kajang and Hulu Langat sub-districts that began in July was completed last month.

State executive councillor for environment Hee Loy Sian said the restoration works stretches across Taman Sungai Mas, Taman Pasiremas, Kampung Jambu and Taman Muhibbah.

“Following the flash floods in the areas in July, the projects were completed with a total cost between RM80,000 and RM135,000.

“The area often experiences flood incidents which have led to riverbank erosion causing the river water to overflow into the nearby residential areas,” he said when met after visiting the maintenance site of the Sungai Langat riverbank in Kampung Sungai Sekamat and Kampung Seri Jambu, here yesterday.

The Kajang state representative said the same project is being implemented in two other areas at Lorong Mendaling Pekan Kajang and Kampung Sekamat, which is at 95 per cent completion.

“We are expecting the maintenance works at the two areas to complete within the next two weeks and hope that it would be able to resolve the floods issues in Kajang and Hulu Langat,” he said.

Hee added that the state government has allocated close to RM700,000 for the maintenance and restoration projects of riverbanks.
