SHAH ALAM, Nov 21 — Selangor has recorded more than two-fold increase in daily Covid-19 cases today with 402 infections out of the total 1,041 figure registered nationwide today. Yesterday, the state saw a total of 153 new infections.

Sabah had topped second in the list with 346 new cases, followed by Negeri Sembilan with 121 cases.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said out of the total cases reported in Selangor today, 363 were from existing clusters, 19 cases from close-contact screenings and 20 others identified from other Covid-19 screenings.

He said a new cluster was detected in Selangor, named the Jalan Harapan Cluster, with 17 recorded cases.

“The Jalan Harapan Cluster involves the Sungai Buloh Prison in Selangor. These cases are a result of the screening of inmates brought into the prison on November 17. As of today, 113 individuals have been screened where 17 positive Covid-19 cases were detected.”

“The high number of cases in Selangor is due to the increase of infections in the Teratai Cluster, which registered 298 cases,” he said in a statement today.

According to the data from the Selangor State Health Department, 326 cases in Selangor were detected in Klang, bringing the cumulative number of cases in the district to 1,531.

This is followed by Petaling with 23 cases, Gombak (22), Hulu Langat (17), Kuala Langat (8), Kuala Selangor (5) and Sepang (1).

No new cases were recorded in Sabak Bernam and Hulu Selangor.

Meanwhile, 250 patients have been discharged from hospital out of the 1,405 recoveries recorded nationwide.
