10 nabbed for gambling, illegal bookmaking in PJ

PETALING JAYA, Dec 8 — Ten people were arrested by police in operations against gambling and illegal bookmaking activities here over the weekend.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said they included four men aged 38 to 70, one of them a foreigner, who was nabbed for involvement in illegal lotteries and horse-racing.

The suspects in the lottery case were arrested in Kampung Lindungan, Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara in Taman Medan while the horse-racing bookie was picked up from a house in Damansara, he said in a statement yesterday.

Nik Ezanee said five men and a woman, aged between 57 and 79, were arrested for playing mahjong in a house in Damansara.

“One suspect has been remanded for 14 days, another suspect remanded two days and eight others were freed on police bail,” he added.
