Air Selangor: Works to stabilise water pressure underway in seven districts

SHAH ALAM, Dec 8 — Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) is in the process of stabilising water distribution to seven districts in the Klang Valley following the five-hour closure of four water treatment plants (WTP) due to a river pollution incident.

In a statement today, its Corporate Communication head Elina Baseri said a total of 861 areas in Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Langat have been affected by low water pressure and unstable water supply.

“Affected users are expected to receive stable water supply in stages starting from 3pm today.

“The five hours closure of the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2, 3 and Rantau Panjang this morning due to the Sungai Selangor pollution had caused an unstable condition in the water supply distribution system that resulted in a drastic reduction in most water tanks in residential areas,” she said.

Elina said Air Selangor understands the users’ need for clean water supply during the conditional movement control order (CMCO) period as well as rising Covid-19 cases and is making efforts to minimise the impact.

She said water tankers will be mobilised to the affected areas with priority given to critical places such as hospitals and dialysis centres.

More information on the unscheduled water supply disruption will be made available on Air Selangor website at www.airselangor.com and all its official communication channels, such as the Air Selangor application, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Earlier today, Air Selangor had informed that operations at the Rantau Panjang WTP had resumed at 3.30am and 5am at the Sungai Selangor 1, 2, 3 WTPs after recording zero TON (threshold odour number) pollution level three times in a row.

It said the pollution detected in Sungai Selangor had caused the temporary closure of the Rantau Panjang WTP at 11.30pm, followed by the Sungai Selangor Phase 1,2, and 3 WTP at 1am today.

The suspension of the WTP operations would have affected 1,274 areas in Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Hulu Langat and Kuala Lumpur.
