Empower digital platform to benefit community

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 — Digital platforms can be utilised to benefit the people and provide far-reaching impact in raising the livelihood of the community apart from disseminating information.

For the chairman of Persatuan Kebajikan Anak-anak Beserah di Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor, Datuk Dzulkifli Mahmud, the organisation is using digital platform to connect with their home village, implement community programmes, sports as well as assisting the community in entrepreneurship.

“Apart from being well-known for local food such kuih and crackers, there are Beserah residents in homestay business who are now using the digital platform to help them generate income,” he said in the KKMM Temu Minda programme hosted by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah over TV1, last night.

The programme which also discussed topics on empowering the digital community was also participated by the general manager of Siakap Keli news portal, Mohamad Firdaus Ishak and its editor-in-chief, Nur Farrah Izwani Rahman.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Firdaus said Siakap Keli is an online news and current affairs platform on community issues apart from aiding individuals wishing to venture into the business world.

“As an example, we see food spots going viral and attracting the interest of the people, thus we also share our social media platform without imposing any charges and indirectly assisting traders,” he said.

Nur Farrah Izwani said the news platform would also ensure information and the source of news delivered to the people are authentic.

“In addition, to ensure that the content published is of interest to the public, the materials provided must have values and content that is always ‘evergreen’, for example on how to repair air conditioners or dabbling in pottery where people are keen to read and use them as reference materials,” she said.
