Local authorities urged to assist traders adopt e-wallet payment next year

By Nadiah Zamlus

SHAH ALAM, Dec 14 — State executive councillor for entrepreneur development Rodziah Ismail has urged local authorities (PBT) to implement programmes to assist traders in using e-wallet systems by next year.

She said so far, only 40 per cent of morning market, night market and food court traders are using a cashless payment system.

“Therefore beginning next year, I hope that all PBTs will assist traders to use the e-wallet system in their  business, thus providing convenience to their customers.

“Traders do not need to worry, you can come and we will help you register for the e-wallet. The implementation is in line with the state government’s policy to become a cashless society,” she said after presenting aprons to traders at Medan Selera@15B with Shah Alam mayor Datuk Haris Kasim today.

In August, the state government launched the cashless transaction mobile application ‘Citizen e-Payment Platform’ or CEPat.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said it is to stimulate the digital economy ecosystem by increasing cashless transactions and to spur the state’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth.

It is also in line with the state government’s objective to drive the Smart Selangor Cashless Economy agenda.
