Local authorities urged to help the building commissioner resolve issues under JMB

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Dec 23 — Local authorities (PBTs) must give priority to the Commissioner of Buildings (COB) to resolve issues under the Joint Management Body (JMB).

State executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail said various issues that arise could not be managed properly that required the involvement of COB to request the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) to pressure PBTs to put the matter under it, to be part of its main checklists.

“So COB will be the main issue for me to resolve next year. We will look into the problems in JMB and how to solve it so that there is no issue of pointing fingers at each other,” she told the media after chairing the Selangor Standing Committee on Housing Series 2/2020 at De’ Palma Hotel here yesterday.

Meanwhile, she said the authority is facing issues involving housing being converted from residential into hotel suites and condominium hotels (condotel).

“It is a new issue since the past two years as there are some parties who originally applied to build hotels but switched as well as apartment units being promoted as Airbnb.

“Therefore, we feel there needs to be a solution by establishing a new policy for issues like this,” she said.
