SHAH ALAM, Dec 13 — The Selangor government encourages city and suburban communities that enjoy farming activities to opt for the use of compost fertiliser.
State executive councillor for agricultural modernisation and agro-based industry Izham Hashim said the use of chemical fertilisers can damage the earth structure and lead to environmental pollution.
“We hope people would start realising this and use compost fertilisers instead as continued usage of the compost fertiliser will make the soil more fertile and reduce pest attacks,” he said when met by Media Selangor after the Aid Contribution Ceremony for the Farming Community 2020 at the Bunga Bakawali Hall in Section 35, Alam Impian, here today.
During the event, Izham had handed 10 compost fertiliser bags and farming equipment to four local authorities namely the Shah Alam City Council, Petaling Jaya City Council, Subang Jaya City Council and the Klang Municipal Council to encourage community farming.
He added that the increase of such farms in stages is aimed at encouraging farming among city dwellers which will gradually produce results.
