SINGAPORE, Jan 19 — A 66-year-old woman from Malaysia is one of the two new cases of locally transmitted Covid-19 infection in Singapore.
Labelled as Case 59395, the elderly is a Long-Term Visit Pass holder and has been residing here since January 2020, said the republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) in its full data released late Monday.
The MOH said she is a retiree who is a family member of Case 59365, a 44-year-old Singaporean man who works as an administrative officer at the Singapore Police Force, 2 Mowbray Road, here.
He was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on January 16.
The ministry said the woman developed acute respiratory infection (ARI) symptoms and diarrhoea on January 9 and subsequently loss of taste on January 14, but had not sought medical treatment.
As she had been identified as a close contact of Case 59365, she was contacted by the ministry on January 16 and tested for Covid-19 when she reported these symptoms.
The MOH said her test result came back positive for Covid-19 infection the next day, and she was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in an ambulance.
“Her serological test result has come back positive. Together with her Covid-19 symptoms, this indicates a likely recent infection with onset on January 9,” said the ministry.
She is now one of the cases linked to the Case 59280 cluster, which has a total of six confirmed cases.
Case 59280, a colleague of Case 59365, was reported on January 14 involving a 32-year-old Singaporean man who works as a para-veterinarian at the Singapore Police Force, 2 Mowbray Road.

Meanwhile, another Malaysian, a 30-year-old man is one of the 12 imported cases reported on Monday.
Labelled as case 59390, the Work Permit holder is asymptomatic and arrived from Malaysia, said the ministry.
As of noon Monday, the city-state reported a total of 14 new cases, of which 12 were imported, two locally transmitted Covid-19 infection, and none in the migrant worker dormitories.
With the new cases, it brings the total number of infections here to 59,127.
