Covid-19: Daily new cases back above 2,000 mark — Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 5 — Malaysia has once again recorded more than 2,000 daily new cases of Covid-19 with 2,027 reported today, bringing the total in the country to date to 122,845.

The country had been recording around 1,700 cases for the past two days.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement said 16 of the cases today were from abroad, while 2,011 were local transmissions.

“The total number of active cases is 22,887. As of now, 123 Covid-19 cases are being treated at the Intensive Care Unit, with 52 cases requiring respiratory assistance,” he said.

Eight Covid-19 deaths were also reported today, taking the cumulative number of deaths in Malaysia due to the disease to 509, or 0.41 per cent of the total number of cases.

Selangor reported the highest number of new cases with 509, followed by Johor (428) and Sabah (383).

A total of 1,221 recoveries were also reported today, taking the cumulative number of fully recovered patients to 99,449, or 81 per cent of the total number of cases.
