KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 3 — The number of flood evacuees in Johor and Pahang was on the rise as of noon today.
In Johor, the number of flood victims increased to 6,248 victims from 1,628 families at noon compared to 5,818 victims from 1,540 families recorded this morning involving seven districts.
Johor State Health and Environment Committee chairman R Vidyananthan said Johor Bahru recorded the highest number of victims with 2,452 people followed by Kluang with 1,867 people and Kota Tinggi with 1,125 victims.
However, evacuation centres that opened remained at 56 with 19 in Kluang, Kota Tinggi (14), Johor Bahru (13), Kulai (five), Mersing and Batu Pahat two each and one in Pontian.
So far, 85 villages, several housing estates as well as oil palm plantations and roads have been affected by the floods in the state.
In Pahang, the number of flood victims increased to 447 residents from 119 families compared to 65 residents from 19 families this morning.
According to data from the Welfare Department website, as of 1pm, Temerloh, Raub dan Jerantut became the latest districts to be hit by floods following continuous rainfall since last night.
Eleven victims from two families have been placed at relief centres in Paya Luas and Sungai Gau in Temerloh, while in Raub, 28 people from eight families sought shelter at the Kampung Peruas surau and another three victims at the Umno hall in Kampung Batu Talam.
Apart from that, a total of 114 victims from 23 families in Jerantut have been placed at the Felda Kota Gelanggi Satu JKKK hall.
In Maran, a total of 76 victims from 21 families were housed at the Sungai Jerik surau while 44 victims from 13 families were moved to the Kampung Jara Community Hall.
In Rompin, four evacuation centres were opened, housing 44 victims from 12 families.
