Teenager pleads guilty to committing mischief

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 — A teenager pleaded guilty in the Ampang Magistrate’s Court here today to committing mischief by breaking the filter pipe of his neighbour’s house in Jalan Pandan Jaya, last Sunday.

The boy, aged 16, made the plea after the charge was read out to him before Magistrate Farah Nasihah Annuar.

He was charged with committing the offence to the pipeline of the Skywater Treatment at the neighbour’s house at 8.40 pm on January 11.

The charge, framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to one year or a fine or both, if found guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor Nor Shazwani Abdullah did not offer bail, but lawyer Mohd. Faiz Fahmy Abdul Razak, from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK), representing the boy, requested bail, saying that his client, who attended school only until Form One, was helping his father to take care of the family.

Farah Nasihah then allowed the boy bail of RM800 with one surety and set March 24 for the submission of the accused’s probation report and sentencing.
