Special committee to be set up to safeguard workers’ welfare — Exco

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SHAH ALAM, Feb 4 — A special committee to help individuals facing employment problems will be set up in an effort to look after the welfare of workers.

State executive councillor for employee empowerment V Ganabatirau said the organisation will act as a platform or medium for all workers in the state to obtain accurate information and advice.

“We plan to involve several other agencies such as the Manpower Department so they can jointly help workers facing workplace problems, layoffs or issues related to the Social Security Organisation.

“All problems complained to us will be looked into. We will give our views and even provide legal assistance if the issues involve legal aspects,” he said to Selangorkini.

However, Ganabatirau said the matter will be discussed first with the State Economic Planning Unit before being decided.

“We feel there is a need for a special platform for employees to complain about their problems and get advice. This effort can be seen as preventing workers from being oppressed,” he said.
