26 vaccination centres in Selangor for second phase of Covid-19 immunisation plan

By Zareef Muzammil

HULU KELANG, April 12 — A total of 26 vaccination centres have been identified across Selangor for the second phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the locations of the centres include hospitals and clinics as well as community halls, which will run once the second phase kicks off.

“As of now, 10 health facilities are registered as vaccination centres. The administration of the vaccine cannot be held at hospitals alone as there are other patients that require medical attention as well, therefore we will open it (the centres) at public halls.

“All district officers will be responsible in executing the (second phase) of the immunisation plan, especially in terms of logistics,” he said when met after the launch of the Mini Library under the AU2 Flat Garden Club, here yesterday.

Citing the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre as an example, Amirudin said the mentioned vaccination centre is able to take up to over 8,000 Covid-19 vaccine recipients in a day for the second phase, compared to the 1,000 recipients during the first phase.

“The centre is committed to increasing the number of recipients and the matter was also addressed during the meeting with the coordinating minister of the immunisation programme,” he said in reference to Federal minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

The national Covid-19 vaccination plan had begun nationwide on February 24 for the first phase, which had targetted 500,000 frontline workers and people’s representatives to be inoculated.

The second phase will start on April 19 until August and has targetted a total of 9.4 million vaccine recipients involving the elderly, disabled and those with comorbidities.

The third phase is scheduled to run from May to February 2022 and will involve individuals aged 18 and above, targeting some 13.7 million people.
