Mais channels RM2.02 mln to help asnaf group

SHAH ALAM, April 30 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) handed over RM2.02 million in contributions to Al-Riqab rehabilitation homes (RPAs) in the first quarter of the year to help the welfare of the ‘asnaf riqab’ group of zakat recipients.

Mais secretary Dr Ahmad Shahir Makhtar said the contribution from the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) involved a total of 27 RPAs around Selangor under the supervision of Mais.

“The donation is intended to help those in the group who need rehabilitation assistance, protection, treatment, prevention and control, in addition to various other aids.

“Through this assistance, the riqab group benefits from the zakat money through the rehabilitation programmes carried out by Mais with the assistance of registered non-governmental organizations aimed and educating and guiding them to become pious believers,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Ahmad Shahir said as an Islamic religious agency responsible for caring for the asnaf riqab group, Mais was concerned about the welfare of this group, and provided various assistance including home rentals and monthly allowance for those looking after the group.

Among the RPAs that received the aid were Rumah Pemulihan Akhlak Insani, Rumah Solehah, Rumah Bela Insan dan Rumah Perlindungan & Bimbingan Wanita Bayt Rahmah.
