Pakatan urges PM to call for parliament sitting, end Emergency

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SHAH ALAM, April 9 — The Pakatan Harapan (PH) has urged Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to call for Parliament sitting to address the country’s current issues.

In a statement today, the coalition had in its ‘Port Dickson Resolution’ urged Muhyiddin to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to end the Emergency.

“Realising that the Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the people, economy and country, even the Perikatan Nasional policies have clearly failed to fully address it.

“(We) regret that democracy in Malaysia has been badly damaged by the catastrophe of betrayal and accursed political defection to the point of fading and eroding the people’s trust in democracy,” the resolution read.

The call by the coalition leaders was made during a two-day retreat in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, which began yesterday.

The retreat was attended by key PH leaders including PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

Also present were Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Previously, the PH Presidential Council recommended that Parliament convene as early as March following the views of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong allowing it during the Emergency period.
