Selcare: 1,353 positive cases detected via free screenings in 16 state constituencies

By Zareef Muzammil

SUBANG JAYA, May 23 — A total of 1,353 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 via the free community screening initiative, which has been carried out throughout 16 state constituencies since May 8.

Selcare Clinic manager Mohd Noor Md Nasir said from the total figure, 70 per cent involved those aged between 18 to 40 years old.

“As of yesterday, a total of 24,331 samples of the antigen rapid test kit (RTK-Ag) were taken with most of those within the productive age group (18 to 40 years old) were found positive.

“A majority (80 per cent) of those who received positive results were asymptomatic and had shown no symptoms of coughing, fever or sore throat. They would come forward and declare as healthy but would test positive,” he said when met at the testing programme at Laman Sukan USJ 1, here today.

The programme was carried out from 9am to 4pm and the same initiative was conducted simultaneously at Dewan Komuniti MBPJ in Kampung Lindungan for those in the Seri Setia state constituency.

Meanwhile, Mohd Noor said the number of registrants via the SELangkah app reached an overwhelming figure of 12,000.

He said this was due to several factors including the high population in Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya, heightened awareness of the public as well as the weekend.

“Subang Jaya saw a total registration of 8,000 individuals where about 70 per cent had opted for the drive-through service while the remaining figure was recorded in Seri Setia.

“We can see there is an increase in awareness among the people. Since the registration was opened last week, the pre-registration number had risen drastically and we hope the momentum would continue,” he added.

Selangor had initiated the free screening operation to be held across its 56 state constituencies from May 8 to June 10.
