165,000 jabs daily targetted in Selangor with procured vaccines

SHAH ALAM, June 15 — The procurement of Covid-19 vaccines by the Selangor government is expected to help accelerate the daily vaccination target, which could reach 165,000 individuals a day starting August.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the strategy is to ensure that 80 per cent of the state’s population are inoculated by September.

“The procurement efforts and vaccination process through the Selangor Vaccination Programme can improve and accelerate efforts towards achieving herd immunity and reach the target of 165,000 (vaccination) per day,” he said today.

He said this after attending the state’s Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Task Force meeting, with the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin at the Selangor State Secretariat Building here.

Amirudin added other strategies include updating and increasing the number of volunteers at the vaccination centre (PPV), and opening more new PPV at certain localities.

Meanwhile, Khairy said Selangor currently administers 43,000 doses a day, and there are plans to increase it.

“We have discussed strategies to increase the vaccination rate in Selangor, meaning the gap between vaccines supplied and used will not be too long,” he said.

Khairy said the vaccination rate for Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinovac in Selangor currently stands at 68 per cent and 61 per cent respectively.

He said as for senior citizens in Selangor, a total of 504,296 individuals have registered for vaccination so far, with 45 per cent or 225,186 having received at least one dose of the vaccine while a total of 218,363 have received an appointment date until June 27.

“This makes it 88 per cent of senior citizens who have registered have at least received their appointment dates. I expect Phase 2 for senior citizens who have registered to be completed by mid-July in Selangor,” he said.
