GOMBAK, June 21 — A total of 2,702 samples of antigen rapid test kit (RTK-Ag) were taken throughout the two days of the Covid-19 community screening programme held in five Selangor state constituencies.

Out of the figure, 1,435 samples involved participants from Seri Setia and Taman Medan, while the remaining 1,267 were from Sungai Tua, Gombak Setia and Taman Templer.

Selcare Clinic manager Mohd Noor Md Nasir said 196 individuals or 4 per cent were suspected to be positive for Covid-19 and are required to take the polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test to confirm their infection status.

“A lot of those who came forward were close contacts of Covid-19 patients. Many of them found suspected positive for Covid-19 are around the age range of 18 to 40 years old and were asymptomatic,” he said when contacted today.

The Selangor administration had allocated RM10.7 million for the third phase of the free mass testing initiative focusing on hotspots and industrial areas.

The screening operation will proceed in Kajang on June 26 and Hulu Kelang and Bukit Antarabangsa the following day.

The programme utilises the RTK-Ag kit that is able to give a result in 30 minutes.

Since it was introduced last year, the state government has held the first phase of the programme during the movement control order (MCO 1.0) and MCO 2.0 period while the second phase was carried out from May 8 to June 10 throughout its 56 state constituencies.
