RM20,000 aid for tour operators to revive industry

SHAH ALAM, June 26 — Tourism industry players in the state are offered financial assistance of up to RM20,000 to continue operating their businesses which were badly affected by Covid-19.

State executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian said it is given to tourism operator who carries out promotional activities to attract and revitalise the sector.

“The RM1 million financial assistance grant was allocated by the state government in the Kita Selangor 2.0 Package.

“All industry players can apply for the assistance. Programmes that cost less than that (RM20,000) are eligible to receive the full claim amount,” he said during the Media Selangor’s Bual Bicara virtual talk show titled ‘Strategies to Save the Tourism Industry’ that was aired live on Media Selangor’s Facebook page and SelangorTV Youtube channel yesterday.

Hee also urged industry players to participate in training on digitalisation and online business that will be provided by the state government to improve their skills as conventional promotional methods are less effective now.

“We will announce this programme in the near future. We will provide training so that they can grow their businesses,” he said.

On June 9, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced an allocation of RM2.55 million to help the tourism industry with its survival.

According to Amirudin, the fund involves the provision of financial assistance grants, Selangor tourism voucher 2.0, tourism digitalisation learning and training programme, as well as one-off cash aid incentive to tourism associations in Selangor.
