Selangor issues more than 8,000 temporary licences to traders

SHAH ALAM, July 3 — Selangor government has issued 8,386 temporary licences from August last year to April this year, to facilitate individuals affected by Covid-19 to conduct business.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the initiative allow the recipients to operate legally until the end of the year.

“Last year, a total of 6,361 individuals received the licences, while from January to April we issued 2,025 permits.

“The issuance of temporary licences is expected to increase following the extension of the movement control order (MCO). So we ask any individual who wants to do business to immediately apply for a licence from their respective local authorities (PBT),” he told SelangorKini.

According to Ng, Kajang Municipal Council issued the highest number of licences with 2,220, followed by Petaling Jaya City Council (1,642) and Subang Jaya City Council (1,172).

“All the recipients are citizens of this country and most of them sell foods. Foreigners are not allowed to use this licence.

“With this licence, the recipients could operate until the end of the year. So far we have not decided on whether to extend the period or otherwise as we need to look at the current situation later,” he said.

Beginning in August last year, Selangor’s local authorities, starting from the Shah Alam City Council, have issued temporary permits to unlicenced traders in a move to help those in the low-income groups (B40) affected by Covid-19 in generating income and stimulate economic growth.

Local authorities need to ensure that stalls sites are suitable, ensure safety and not cause a disturbance.
