‘We are not profiting from sale of vaccines’ — MB

PETALING JAYA, July 1 — Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has dismissed claims that the state government is profiting from selling the Covid-19 vaccine to employers through the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax).

The Menteri Besar said the purchase of the vaccines by industry players would cover the cost of vaccine delivery to the people in the state for free.

“The (cost of) distribution of the vaccines is not just about the vaccines itself, but we have put together about 5,000 workers and have also incurred certain costs for the vaccination centres (PPVs) and other matters.

“The question of profiteering does not arise but it is more to cover the management cost,” said Amirudin during a press conference after visiting the Selvax PPV at Tropicana Garden Mall, here yesterday.

The state administration has allocated some two million vaccine doses for employees in the state, including foreign workers, under the Selvax Industry initiative.

Amirudin said the move is to curb the spread of the infection protect all parties as a large number of Covid-19 cases were detected from workplace clusters.

He said in the month of June, 91 per cent or 125 clusters detected in Selangor had originated from workplaces with 80 per cent involving factories and 11 per cent from construction sites.
