SHAH ALAM, Aug 25 — A total of 3,996 people in Selangor have succumbed to Covid-19 from January until August 10, says Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

The Public Health, Unity, Women and Family Development Committee chairman said the Petaling district recorded the highest fatalities during the said time period at 1,284, followed by Hulu Langat (1,029) and Gombak (672).

As for other districts in the state, Klang registered 477 Covid-19-related deaths, followed by Kuala Langat (154), Sepang (132), Kuala Selangor (114), Hulu Selangor (104), and Sabak Bernama (30).

“There is no data from the CPRC (Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre) and JKNS (Selangor State Health Department) on deaths caused by other variants. Not all cases undergo a genome sequencing process to determine the type of variant.

“Only a small number undergo the testing, and the results could not be extrapolated to cause of death as the data were not representative in nature,” said Dr Siti Mariah in response to a question by Pandamaran state assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee on the number of Covid-19 deaths in Klang and Selangor, during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, today.

The Seri Serdang state representative added that from January 1 to July 31, Klang alone had recorded 328 fatalities linked to Covid-19.
