SHAH ALAM, Aug 4 — A boost in efforts to curb the Covid-19 outbreak, including the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax), has helped in reducing the number of daily infections recorded in Selangor for four consecutive days.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government is taking proactive measures in its fight against Covid-19, which includes increasing the daily vaccination rate that contributes to a reduced number of cases.

“As mentioned by the Greater Klang Valley Task Force chairman, Datuk Dr Chong Chee Kheong, we might be able to see a significant drop by the end of this month and in early September.

“After that, Selangor would be able to move on to the next phase under the National Recovery Plan,” he said when met after visiting the vaccination centre at Universiti Teknologi Mara in Puncak Alam, here yesterday.

According to statistics by the Health Ministry, the daily cases in Selangor stood at 5,836 cases yesterday, a decline from 6,067 cases on Monday, 6,326 cases (Sunday) and 6,400 cases (Saturday).

Amirudin also reminded the community to continue living in the new norm and keep wearing face masks despite the drop in daily infections and the increased number of people inoculated.

He stressed that the community should learn from the sudden increase of over 60,000 cases reported in England due to the outbreak of the Delta variant following the Euro 2020 football championship.

“The state government is also prepared to add more vaccine supply to meet the increasing need when more teenagers have reached the age of 18,” he said.
