Selangor Sultan applauds efforts to tackle water pollution issues

By Nasuha Badrul Huzaini

SHAH ALAM, Aug 23 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has lauded the efforts taken by the state government in tackling the water pollution issues last year.

His Royal Highness said the efforts include amendments to the Selangor Management Water Authority (Luas) Enactment 1999, which is based on the ‘Polluters Pay Principle’.

He said this also includes the allocation of RM360.52 million, which covers the bio-remediation water treatment system.

“The state administration also had included the people of Selangor to play their role through the Friends of River programme, which has proven to help in tackling the issue,” he said in his royal address when opening the Fourth Meeting of the 14th Selangor State Legislative Assembly, here, today.

The Selangor Ruler said despite the various initiatives and advanced technologies provided by the state government in ensuring sustainable water supply, the Selangor people are urged to consume water prudently to avoid wastage.

“Through Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), the state government is committed to focusing on improving the clean water supply service as well as ensuring a continuous supply of water to the residents of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya,” he added.

The Selangor state assembly is held at the Annex Building for nine days, from today to September 6.
