Sidec-nurtured startup develops virtual learning application

SHAH ALAM, Aug 26 — A startup nurtured by the Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) has developed an educational mobile application (app) that has so far benefited more than 10,000 users.

IX Ventura Tech Sdn Bhd founder Iliyas Jamil said the SnappED app provides a free virtual learning platform for teachers and students to submit, send and review school work.

According to him, the idea to produce the app started in 2018 and became a reality in April when face-to-face learning could not be held following the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Through SnappED, teachers only need to send instructions to a platform accessible to students who then complete the school work and send pictures of the answer sheets.

“Teachers can check the work on a device and make corrections using a stylus pen, and writing is still being emphasised because it is part of the method used in the national education system to train students,” he told SelangorKini today.

The SnappED app is available for download on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Sidec is currently nurturing IX Ventura Tech through the 2021 Selangor Accelerator Programme (SAP), an initiative by the state government to help boost high potential startups.

The SAP is a structured three-month programme that aims to prepare 30 early-stage startups into becoming investment-ready businesses. The Top 5 startups might also stand a chance to receive investment.

Iliyas said so far its application has 10,600 users from 26 schools in Perak, Perlis and Sarawak, with the majority of the users living in rural areas.

He hoped the 2021 SAP programme will help expand its users’ network by promoting digital education in Selangor and reduce the burden on parents because only one device is needed for a family.

“Sidec trained us to go through the next phase as a startup, such as on how to make a pitch and increase the revenues.

“At the end of this programme, we will get an opportunity in pitching this app in front of potential investors,” he said.
