KLANG, Sept 27 — Issuance of compounds by local authorities (PBT) on visitors to public parks who violated the standard operating procedures (SOPs) is justifiable in controlling the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
State executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian said it is necessary, as the virus infection was still uncontrollable and any SOPs violations put many individuals at risk.
“We (the PBTs) have to do this. They have the power as the NSC (National Security Council) provision allows suing individuals who do not adhere to the SOPs.
“Now there are areas that are out of control (having too many visitors). We have no choice but to start issuing summonses,” he said after officiating the closing ceremony of the PRO500 Trees Sentosa programme at the Sentosa State Constituency Service Centre here yesterday.
Meanwhile, the exco also reminded parents to think wisely before taking their children on holiday as the infection rate remains high.
“Currently it is not suitable to travel. We have not entered Phase Three (of the National Recovery Plan). If you want to travel interdistrict, make sure you are fully vaccinated and follow the SOPs,” he said.
Starting next week, the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) will impose a compound on visitors to Pantai Bagan Lalang who fail to comply with the SOPs.
Its president Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said individuals who flouted the SOPs can be fined up to RM2,000, while companies or corporations can be fined up to RM10,000.
