By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Oct 21 — The Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) has officially upgraded to Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) starting today.

The declaration was made by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, after the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj granted assent.

Amirudin said this will enable Hulu Selangor to receive more investment, besides boosting the local tourism and manufacturing sectors.

He said the change will also have a positive impact on locals, as the municipality moves towards becoming a sustainable and resilient urban area.

“Hulu Selangor will be managed as a municipality with an equivalent delivery system. In addition, the standards and efficiency must be in accordance with its new status.

“This new status also increases the hopes and expectations of various parties.

“All employees must address the challenges ahead and mobilise efforts to strengthen the quality of services for the people,” Amirudin said in a speech during the declaration that was broadcasted on MDHS’s Facebook page.

Meanwhile, MPHS president Mohd Hasry Nor Mohd said today’s success that was achieved after years of hard work should become the pride of the Hulu Selangor people because it is a benchmark for the development of the district.

“All residents will remember this sacred moment with pride as it is sculpted in the folds of history.

“However, there will definitely be challenges to be faced. Therefore, let us renew our commitment to implement sustainable development,” he said.

In the same ceremony, MPHS also launched its new official logo and song entitled ‘Hulu Selangor Terus Maju’.
