SEPANG, Nov 7 — The Selangor government is currently identifying suitable locations to set up recycling centres in each of the state’s local councils, says Ng Sze Han.
The state executive councillor for local government said the future plan aims to reduce garbage dumping at landfills and subsequently help in cost saving, which is now borne by the local councils.
“The location must be along the route that is used by the KDEB Waste Management compactor lorries so that it will ease the waste collection process.
“As of now, the recycling centres are located in Meru, Klang and Bandar Bukit Puchong in Puchong. These recycling centres have shown positive impact and now we will look into suitable sites in all local councils,” he said.
Ng was met during a Back To School programme organised by the Sepang Municipal Council Resident Representative Committee (JPP) in Kota Warisan, today.
Meanwhile, he said the community’s awareness towards cleanliness and the 3R programme (reduce, reuse, recycle) is increasing.
“The residents, the JPP, Resident Representative Council (MPP) and Resident Committee (JKP) have initiated the 3R programme with similar goals even though using different names for the programme.
“The effort must be carried out consistently as a way to educate the community to be more disciplined and be wary of the environment,” he said.
