SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 — The high-tide phenomenon with seawater level rising over 5.6 metres in height resulted in tidal overflow flooding in several coastal areas in Klang early this morning.

The affected areas include Pengkalan Sayang D’Sayang in Jalan Othman Baru, Jalan Pengkalan Nelayan in Rantau Panjang, as well as Pengkalan Sungai Keramat and Pengkalan Jeti Sementa in Batu 5.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Hafisham Mohd Noor said the Sungai Pinang Fire and Rescue Station and other agencies detected the rise of seawater levels between 5am and 7am.

“The over-5.6 metres high tide resulted in the seawater overflowing across the road, but the situation is still under control.

“The houses of the nearby residents were not flooded and are safe to occupy,” he said in a statement.

Hafisham added the high tide in several areas around Telok Panglima Garang was also above normal, including at Sritama Jetty, Carey Island; Sri Tanjung Jetty and Sepakat Jetty, with the situation there similarly under control.

Meanwhile the high tide in several areas around Kampung Tok Muda in Kapar, namely Pengkalan Nelayan and the coast of bunds at Jeti Kampung Tok Muda to the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) power center, was below 5.6 metres.

In Tanjong Karang, Hafisham said the tidal overflow flooding occurred in several areas in Bagan Pasir Beach, Bagan Tengkorak Beach, Rasa Sayang Beach, Sungai Kajang Beach and Pekan Tanjong Karang.

He said the same situation was reported in Sekinchan, but it is all still under control and no victims were evacuated.
