SHAH ALAM, Nov 30 — The Selangor State Sports Council (MSN Selangor) has made payments amounting to RM5 million to coaches and athletes involved in the Malaysia Games (Sukma).

State executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the payments for 2020 and 2021 included RM2.9 million for coaches and RM2.1 million for athletes.

“To ensure the coaches and athletes remain committed to prepare for the next Sukma, MSN Selangor has made payments to them.

“Payment to coaches were for those on a full and part-time contractual basis, while athletes are paid based on their training attendance,” he said.

Mohd Khairuddin was responding to Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Mei’s query on the state government’s preparations for Sukma, at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here yesterday.

Khairuddin said during the movement control order (MCO) periods, the coaches continued the training programme virtually from their respective residences.

“This virtual training method is used to help coaches to continue to interact with athletes, thus ensuring that athletes stay fit despite the MCO’s constraints.

“However, starting November all Sukma athletes have undergone their physical training in accordance with the permitted standard operating procedures,” he said.
