PETALING JAYA, Nov 10 — The roundtable conference with the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) has created an opportunity for Selangor to promote its investment sector at the international level, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar said the programme also became a platform for the state government to conduct its business in line with its economic recovery plan, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The programme offers fruitful sharing and discussion sessions for both parties.

“The collaboration must be continued in the future as it provides good opportunities for potential investors to come to Selangor,” he said during the programme held at Sheraton Hotel, here yesterday.

Also present during the event were BMCC chairman Abrar A Anwar, state executive councillor for investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim and Invest Selangor chief operation officer Datuk Hasan Azhari Idris.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said apart from being the 19th biggest business partner in Malaysia, the United Kingdom (UK) also has been a significant investor in Selangor for a long time.

He said from 2011 up to last year, the investment from the UK in Selangor exceeded RM450 million, which created over 2,100 job opportunities in the manufacturing sector.

“Among the companies are AB Mauri Malaysia which has been in operation for over 50 years. Other companies include Weir Minerals Malaysia in Batu Arang, Gombak and Rolls Royce in Serendah, Rawang.

GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca and British American Tobacco are among those that have chosen Selangor as their global centre.

“This proves that Selangor is the preferred destination for the manufacturing sector and digital investment apart from being seen as a gateway to penetrate the Asian market,” he added.
