KUALA LANGAT, Dec 23 — A total of 141 food baskets were disbursed to the Orang Asli community in six villages in Sepang and Kuala Langat that were affected by the floods.

State executive councillor for Orang Asli affairs Hee Loy Sian said the villages located in the two districts include Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Tampoi, Kampung Orang Asli Tampoi Seberang, Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Serdang, Kampung Orang Asli Jambu, Kampung Orang Asli Kelinsing and Kampung Orang Asli Bakok.

“I visited Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Tampoi, Kampung Orang Asli Tampoi Seberang and Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Serdang. Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Serdang was badly hit as they were disconnected and had no transportation with floodwaters reaching the chest level.

“When we went to distribute the goods, they had asked the state and Federal governments to help in handing out pillows, blankets, water jet pumps and boats for ease of access.

“We took note of their request and will send out the aid needed the soonest possible by tomorrow (today) as we would need some time to purchase the items,” he said when met at Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Serdang here, yesterday.

Earlier, Hee had waded through floodwater for one kilometre to meet with the Orang Asli community to hand over daily necessities.

He said that some 660 Orang Asli residents were affected by the floods.

“Those affected will be assisted thoroughly both during and after the floods have receded,” he added.

The continuous downpour from December 17 to 19, which was the highest rainfall ever recorded in Selangor, had resulted in extensive flooding throughout the state.

Personnel and assets under the state government and Federal agencies, including firemen, police, and the army, were deployed for flood relief operations and to assist flood victims.
