SHAH ALAM, Dec 20 — A total of 1,715 flood victims in and around Kuala Selangor have been placed at eight temporary relief centres (PPS), as of 8.30am today.
Kuala Selangor District Disaster Committee chairman Mohd Tirmidzy Che Mat said these include 493 families who were stranded, following heavy rains since Friday.
The number of victims will be updated from time to time, after receiving the official report from the Social Welfare Department (JKM), he said when contacted by SelangorKini.
Meanwhile, Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) secretary Yusli Askandar said they had deployed 20 enforcement personnel and 10 Special Action Squad (Pantas) members to manage the equipment for the victims at the PPS.
He added they will also help control traffic and safety in the flooded areas, besides helping stranded vehicles.
“We will carry out operations to clear up the fallen trees, and use all assets available in MPKS for the flood disaster relief operations,” Yusli said.
Unusual heavy rains since Saturday saw more than double the rainfall levels from the previous high of 180mm, which resulted in many areas in the state being inundated.
All state government assets and Federal agencies including the Fire and Rescue Department, Police and Armed Forces were mobilised to evacuate victims, to safety as well as distribute basic necessities.
All efforts were coordinated by the Smart Selangor Operations Center (SSOC) which operates 24 hours, at the Selangor State Secretary Building here.
