Coordinating committee formed for Hulu Langat flood recovery process

HULU LANGAT, Dec 23 — The state government has formed a committee to coordinate the flood recovery process and distribution of aid in Hulu Langat, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said coordination stations have been built to handle congestion for the time being, as volunteers and NGOs flock to the district to provide aid.

“Hulu Langat is in a severe situation, and there needs to be additional coordination, so we will arrange and regain control of the surroundings so the recovery process can be carried out.

“The stations are expected to become operational in one or two weeks. We will call and arrange all volunteers and NGOs, so there will be no congestions as well as overlap of duties,” Amirudin said at the temporary relief centre in Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Serai, where he was visiting earlier today.

He added the stations will be led by state executive councillor for young generations Mohd Khairuddin Othman.

Amirudin said the state government will not obstruct anyone from coming to provide aid, but that it should be streamlined so the recovery process in Hulu Langat remains smooth.

Earlier on he announced that RM2 million from the Selangor Bangkit initiative will be channeled to Hulu Langat, for the recovery of a large portion of the district affected by the floods.

The extraordinary rain from December 17 to December 19 was double the previous highest rainfall average of 180mm, resulting in many places in Selangor becoming submerged in water.
