Exco: Selangor cultural programme to be expanded starting next year

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

KUALA LANGAT, Dec 12 — The Rentak Selangor programme will be expanded next year to highlight other cultural arts, said state executive councillor for culture and heritage Borhan Aman Shah.

He said they do not wish to focus on cultural arts by only prioritising one activity such as dancing.

The councillor recently introduced the kuda kepang dance to Sabak Bernam, and the dabus dance to Kuala Selangor.

“However next year we will expand the Rentak Selangor programme by introducing clothing, cuisine, and historical locations.

“We should all be concerned and responsible in ensuring Selangor’s culture is retained and has heirs, asides from being upheld as the state’s identity,” Borhan said.

He was speaking at the Junjungan Kasih Melestarikan Budaya Warisan programme yesterday, held in conjunction with the birthday of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, at Istana Bandar in Kuala Langat.

Earlier on March 4, Borhan said the state government will hold a touring series of Rentak Selangor, aimed at showcasing the variety of society’s cultural arts and performances.

The programme is aimed at stimulating the tourism sector once again, in a post-movement control order environment.

The touring series will focus on villages or districts which own art and culture sites, for the benefit of younger generations.
