Go Selangor app to spur tourism industry next year

SHAH ALAM, Dec 10 — The state government through Tourism Selangor will introduce a mobile application ‘Go Selangor’ in the first half of next year to help revive the pandemic hit sector.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this is in line with Tourism 4.0 and the tourism digitalisation initiative.

“To enhance your travel experience in Selangor, something big is brewing. The Selangor government through Tourism Selangor will extend full support towards the development of the “Go Selangor” mobile application, which will be launched in the market by February 2022.

“We aspire to welcome around 100,000 Selangor’s merchants on the application, which is a proactive embark towards fostering Tourism 4.0 and tourism digitalisation,” he said in his opening speech of Tourism Selangor Global Convention 2021 (TSGC 2021) in Petaling Jaya today.

Amirudin said during the post-pandemic phase, tourists want to re-travel with emphasis on the new norms.

Thus he said the tourism sector’s approaches and promotional initiatives should cater accordingly to the rising demands as only then would they get optimal results.

“A defining element brought-fourth by the Covid-19 pandemic is digital transformation, as the pandemic has led to the rise of digital technology – a notion which is supported by the Selangor government in encouraging businesses in the state to adapt to the changes,” he said.

Amirudin said TSGC 2021 with the theme; “A Game Changer to Reset Tourism” is the first-ever global convention in Malaysia that brings together aspiring leaders and key industry players.

“TSGC 2021 is the platform for sharing useful insights towards elevating Malaysian tourism, especially Selangor tourism to greater heights post-pandemic.

“Selangor is responsible for ensuring tourism sustainability in the state. I believe, TSGC 2021 is an intricate effort towards achieving the vision, as well as boosting the industry,” he said.

The hybrid event, which takes place today and tomorrow at the New World Petaling Jaya Hotel, will feature speakers who will share their thoughts on the future of tourism.

Key personalities from Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation, Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation as well as ShopeePay will also be present.

Among the topics that will be discussed are “Digital Tourism 4.0 and E-Commerce”, “Innovation and Diversity in Tourism Business Survival During the Pandemic”, “Influencers in Tourism Destination”, “Sports Tourism”, “Creative Tourism and the Film Industry”, and “C-Level Tourism Dialogue”.

Participation in TSGC 2021 is by invitation only, but the event will be live-streamed and the public can access it on www.tsglobalconvention.com.
