Nidzam Jamil says his return to Selangor FC not demotion

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 — Former Felda United FC chief coach Mohd Nidzam Jamil has rubbished any perception that his appointment as Selangor FC assistant chief coach was a sort of demotion.

Mohd Nidzam said he had been offered the post of chief coach by several Premier League teams but chose Selangor because he wants to help the Red Giants regain their glorious era in local football.

“I did not pick other teams because this is the best time to return to Selangor. It was not a difficult decision to make because everyone knows that Selangor are among the good teams in the Malaysia League.

“In fact, I’m attracted by Selangor’s projects which give serious focus on developing young players from Selangor 2 and 3, as well as graduates of the Mokhtar Dahari Academy (AMD) who are also here,” he said in a statement released by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) today.

Mohd Nidzam and Karsten Neitzel were appointed as Selangor’s assistant chief coaches on Nov 22 to help Michael Feichtenbeiner manage the team for the 2022 Super League season.

Mohd Nidzam said he was returning to his roots with a mission as Selangor was the place where he began his football career.

“It was here that I learnt football, starting as a ball picker, joining the academy before playing in all age-group competitions and getting absorbed into the senior team,” he added.

Mohd Nidzam was Felda United chief coach in 2019 and 2020, after serving as assistant to chief coach B. Satianathan in the same team in 2017 and 2018.

He played for Selangor from 1999 to 2004.
