SHAH ALAM, Dec 24 — A total of RM10 million has been allocated by the Selangor government to the Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS) to upgrade the drainage system in Taman Sri Muda, here.

State executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim said that the project that had kicked off on July 1 is in progress and is expected to be fully completed on July 1, 2023.

He said among the projects are constructing a structure for the installation of three screw pumps and upgrading the main drainage system in the area.

“We hope that the project, which is based on current needs, would help solve the flooding issue here,” he said in a statement, yesterday.

In response to a news report stating the failure to repair pumps which led to the floods in Taman Sri Muda, Izham said JPS had serviced two existing mobile pumps in addition to adding two more new units.

He said the operation of the pumps was witnessed by state executive councillor V Ganabatirau on November 17.

“I hope that the media and others would get the correct information especially in the news to avoid any misunderstanding or confusion to the people,” he added.

Taman Sri Muda was badly hit by flooding following continuous downpour from December 17 to 19, which saw the highest rainfall ever recorded in Selangor.
