SHAH ALAM, Dec 27 — State representatives from areas not affected by the floods have taken the initiative to go down on the ground to help the affected residents of flood-affected constituencies.

Bandar Utama assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin set up a collection centre for essential items, to encourage people in her constituency to contribute to flood victims.

“The items we have donated include mattresses, dry foods, baby diapers, bread, and biscuits.

“Thank you to all the generous contributors who contributed to those affected by this flood disaster,” said Jamaliah when contacted by SelangorKini yesterday.

She added that apart from distributing essential items, 15 volunteers from the Bandar Utama constituency and herself also did cleaning work in several affected areas since last Monday.

Meanwhile, Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said 300 volunteers and himself from his service centre, higher learning institutions students, and Angkatan Muda Keadilan, also participated in the cleanup work.

“We did a ‘gotong-royong’ to clean 50 affected houses around Klang, especially in Kampung Sungai Pinang.

“It may not be much, it is hoped this will ease the burden of flood victims. We hope more people will come forward to help them,” he said.

Last Thursday, Chua and 80 volunteers cleaned 20 houses in Kampung Orang Asli Pulau Indah.
