Azizulhasni’s father dies of stroke

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 — National track cycling ace Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang’s father, Awang Embong died of a stroke early today.

Azizulhasni’s brother-in-law, Mohd Razman Mohamad said his father-in-law breathed his last at 2am at his home in Dungun, Terengganu.

He said early this week, Awang, 72, who also suffered from dementia was admitted to a private hospital in Kuala Terengganu and was warded for four days before being discharged yesterday.

“He looked happy when discharged. We were all shocked and saddened by his death this morning, but we accepted it as fate,” he told Bernama.

Mohd Razman said the funeral prayers for Awang would be held after the Zohor prayers at Surau Ustaz Omar Shukri before being laid to rest at the Syed Yahya Muslim cemetery in Dungun.

Meanwhile, Mohd Razman said he had communicated with Azizulhasni, who is currently undergoing training in Melbourne, Australia, at 5am today to share about the funeral arrangements for Awang.

“Azizulhasni is indeed saddened by the passing of his father. As he could not come home in time for the funeral, he said he had to leave it to us to make all the necessary arrangements,” he said.

Meanwhile, in his Facebook post, Azizulhasni shared the sad news of his father’s death and prayed that his soul would be placed among the righteous.

“May Allah forgive all my father’s sins, accept all his good deeds and place him among the pious.

“Ya Allah! Shower Your mercy upon him (Awang Embong) and forgive all his sins,” he said.

The news of Awang’s death was also shared by the National Sports Council on its official Facebook and Twitter accounts.
