Over 6,000 flood-affected households in Petaling receive cash aid

By Amin Ridzuan Ishak

SHAH ALAM, Jan 7 — Over 6,000 flood-affected families in Petaling have received the RM1,000 cash aid under the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) programme as of yesterday.

Petaling district officer Dato’ Johary Anuar said some 5,487 recipients have received the cash aid two days ago and an additional 1,400 households in Kampung Seri Aman and Kampung Tengah received it yesterday.

He said the cash aid has been distributed to 85 per cent of recipients in Shah Alam and the remainder will receive it as soon as possible.

“To date, the disbursing process has gone smoothly and we are providing 60 officers on duty to key in the applicant’s data in order to avoid redundancies at the one-stop centre in Petaling District Government Office Complex.

“Our officers will contact the approved applicants and the cash aid could be collected at the nearest distribution centre according to the given date and time,” he said yesterday.

Johary expected that approximately 12,000 to 15,000 recipients are eligible for the BSB assistance in the Petaling district.

On December 21, the Selangor government allocated RM100 million in funds under the BSB programme, following the flood incident that hit eight districts in the state, at the end of last year.

Eligible recipients include flood victims who were relocated to the registered PPS, private PPS and those who remained at home.

The disbursement of the cash aid started on December 28 and is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
