SHAH ALAM, Jan 4 — The post-flood cleanup work in Taman Sri Muda, Section 25 here is expected to be completed this week.

Shah Alam mayor Dato’ Zamani Ahmad Mansor said so far 11,919 tonnes of bulk waste have been collected from the area.

“MBSA together with KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) manages the collection of post-flood waste in the affected areas and (work in) some of the areas have reached 100 per cent.

“However, in Taman Sri Muda, the affected areas are large and so far more than 60 per cent of the work have been resolved. Insya Allah (God willing), we will try to finish it by this week as well,” he said.

He said this after receiving a donation from the Emirates Red Crescent from United Arab Emirates (UAE) at Wisma MBSA here yesterday.

Zamani hoped that flood victims, especially those in industrial areas, would dispose of their rubbish at the temporary transfer stations (TS) for bulk garbage.

“I urge them not to place it on the side of the road or in residential areas after we have cleared the area, as people keep on piling it at the same place and we have to repeatedly clear it,” he said.

A total of 28,506 metric tonnes of flood waste have been collected from the affected areas under the MBSA administration from the end of December to yesterday.

Based on an infographic shared on Twitter, a total of 12 of the 21 areas under MBSA’s jurisdiction which were affected by the floods, have been completely cleared with an estimated 3,042 tonnes removed every day.

The cleanup work involved 250 MBSA personnel, as well as 65 from KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) and 45 volunteers, the operation also involved 207 lorries and 60 backhoe loaders.
