SHAH ALAM, Feb 5 — The state government has introduced the Selangor Cancer (CanSEL) programme to provide opportunities for citizens of the state to undergo early screening tests.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the screening included the mammogram, colorectal and prostate tests up until the disease confirmation stage.
“Together we can learn more about cancer and get involved in the cancer prevention effort among our families and communities,” he said on Twitter.
Amirudin added that several cities such as Shah Alam, Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya were chosen as the second city in Asia to participate in the City Cancer Challenge as announced during the World Cancer Leaders Summit in Nur-Sultan (Astana), Kazakhstan on October 15, 2019.
“The Greater Petaling area has participated in the movement in collaborating with the stakeholders to develop a more holistic cancer prevention, control and treatment system for the Selangor citizens,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said the World Cancer Day which is celebrated on February 4 every year helps to increase the awareness and promote the involvement of the communities towards the cancer’s prevention and controlling efforts.
“‘Close the Care Gap’ was chosen as the theme for this year, aiming to increase the equality in cancer treatment to the patients,” he said.
